Christian Colleges
A hundred different requirements and expectations run through a prospective student’s mind when he or she researches potential colleges and universities. Location, degree programs, faculty, and social life are generally among the top concerns. Some students choose a college based on athletics, while others choose strictly based on academics. There are some students who consider colleges that will not only appeal to them academically and socially, but also enrich them spiritually. These students often choose a college that is affiliated with a particular religious denomination and hope to find a campus that is supports their spiritual beliefs during the years the work towards a degree.
Christian colleges have been a small but strong minority for centuries. With many colleges struggling with party school reputations and black-marks as a result of disruptive fraternities, Christian colleges hope to offer students an environment that is inspiring and enriching. General Christian colleges offer an abundance of campus ministries such as Bible study groups, praise and worship teams, Intervarsity Christian groups, mission trips, and prayer ministries. Students are able to augment their education with a variety of opportunities to involve themselves in religious activities.
Trinity University began in 1952 as a two-year college with the mission of providing Christian higher education from a Reformed worldview. Now with 3 majors and connections to study abroad programs around the world, Trinity has balanced a commitment to both academics and faith, and has given students a global perspective on both. The low student to teacher ration, 13 students to each faculty member, and the state-of-the-art facilities make Trinity University a compelling option for students looking into a Christian college.
Another example of a Christian college is Baylor University. One of the oldest universities in Texas, Baylor University was founded in 1845. Baylor University is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and offers a 1 to 17 faculty to student ratio. Baylor University offers many Christian ministries on campus, and impressively, Baylor faculty, staff, and students volunteer for more than 15, hours of community service each year. A warm, tight knit community, Baylor offers much more than just an academic experience.
These are just two of hundreds of Christian colleges available to students looking for a higher education that attends to spiritual as well as academic needs.
